The Future Artist program; designed for middle and high school age students, combines an intensive writing program with learning the expertise needed to direct and produce a theatrical performance. The students will write a one act play, and then auditioned and cast professional adult actors to perform their work. The students will learn how to direct and produce a live show for an audience of their parents, school, and the local arts community. The Future Artist is unique; as there are many programs that concentrate on acting, the imperative skills of writing are often overlooked in drama. Developing writing skills are crucial for students to have a successful academic career. Using the creative outlet of playwriting; helps to develop these skills while encouraging students to express themselves artistically. The directing aspect of the program will ripen the children’s analytical and problem solving skills, allowing them to cultivate and mature their leadership abilities. The Starving Artist’s ultimate goal is to impact local students, and have them engage in wholesome community drama program, develop and encourage their self esteem, and connect them into the arts.
